Bitcoin briefly dips before rebounding after news of Venezuela’s Maduro being captured by U.S. forces.

The U.S. launched an overnight military operation in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and removing them from the country.

Former President Donald Trump confirmed early Saturday that the strike was “large scale” and resulted in the detention and extraction of Maduro and his wife.

Later, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that both Maduro and Flores had been indicted in the Southern District of New York on multiple drug trafficking and weapons charges.

Crypto markets reacted briefly to the news. Bitcoin (BTC) dipped roughly 0.5% to $89,300 around 2 a.m. ET following reports of military activity, but had rebounded to just below $90,000 by 9 a.m. ET.

Trump has scheduled a news conference at 11 a.m. ET to provide further details.
