XRP Faces Price Resistance Despite Rising Social Optimism

Ripple is bringing Privy’s embedded wallet infrastructure to the XRP Ledger, allowing developers to build financial applications and AI agents that can create wallets, hold digital assets, and make payments without requiring users to operate wallet software themselves. The integration supports payments for online services using XRP and RLUSD, though the economic significance of the reported transaction activity remains an open question.

Privy, owned by Stripe, provides the underlying technology for integrating wallets directly into applications. A release shared with CoinDesk said developers can use the system to authorize transfers involving XRP, Ripple’s dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin, and other assets issued on the XRP Ledger.

The integration could make it easier for payment providers to offer dollar-linked transactions without requiring customers to manage the private keys used to approve spending.

Instead of developing wallet infrastructure independently, companies can rely on Privy’s existing tools. Users can also export their private keys or recovery phrases, allowing them to move their wallets to other platforms.

Another potential use case involves businesses funding AI agents with wallets so automated software can purchase online services. Privy’s documentation explains that wallets managed through company servers can hold and spend funds, including through x402, a payment standard designed for buying access to data and other digital services.

Under this model, an AI agent requesting paid information could receive a payment prompt, authorize the transfer, and access the requested data after the transaction is verified. Payments can therefore take place automatically for individual requests, without requiring a person to complete a checkout process each time.

CoinDesk contacted the XRP Ledger Foundation to ask which applications are using the integration and whether data is available showing how much payment activity on the network comes from AI agents.

The announcement follows reports of rising transaction activity associated with automated agents on the XRP Ledger.

Last week, RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele wrote on X that the network had processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402, representing around 25% of ledger activity.

Separately, figures from the XRPL AI Hub, operated by payments infrastructure developer t54, showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday.

However, the total value of these payments is much smaller than the transaction volume might imply.

The dashboard listed cumulative payments of approximately 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD. This suggests that many transactions involve small sums, potentially reflecting software paying for individual data requests or digital services rather than large-value transfers.

Ripple began providing developers with tools for these payments in June. The toolkit allows AI agents to create wallets, check balances, and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD. In September, Ripple expanded the tools to accommodate a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The update also introduced a way to fund repeated requests with XRP rather than settling each transaction individually.

Tuesday’s release said Ripple and Privy plan to broaden the integration, with future additions expected to include policy controls and tools for covering users’ network fees.

Even so, embedding a wallet into an application does not eliminate the need to activate and fund the account before it can make transactions.

Privy’s documentation states that a newly created XRP Ledger account requires a minimum reserve of 1 XRP for activation. Consequently, someone must provide the initial XRP even if the account will be used only for dollar-pegged RLUSD transfers.

This requirement could present an additional step for applications aiming to make stablecoin payments seamless, particularly for customers and AI agents that do not already hold XRP.
