Ripple Brings Privy Wallets to XRPL as AI Transactions Surpass 14M

The integration will enable software to make payments for online services using XRP and RLUSD, although the actual economic significance of the growing transaction volume remains an open question.

Ripple is incorporating wallet infrastructure from Stripe-owned Privy into the XRP Ledger, allowing financial applications and AI agents to establish accounts, hold digital currencies and execute payments without requiring users to manage wallets directly.

A release shared with CoinDesk states that developers will be able to integrate wallets into their applications and authorize transactions involving XRP, Ripple’s dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network.

The integration could make it easier for payment companies to offer dollar-linked transactions while removing the need for customers to manage the private keys required to approve transfers.

Privy provides the underlying wallet technology, reducing the development work required from application providers. Its infrastructure also supports exporting private keys and recovery phrases, allowing wallets to be transferred to other platforms.

Businesses could use the system to equip AI agents and automated bots with funded wallets to purchase online services. Privy’s documentation explains that wallets managed through company servers can hold and spend funds, including through x402, a payment standard designed to facilitate purchases of data and other digital services.

For example, an AI agent seeking access to paid information could receive a payment request, authorize the transfer and retrieve the data once the transaction has been verified. This arrangement enables software to pay for individual requests automatically without requiring human involvement at every checkout.

CoinDesk contacted the XRP Ledger Foundation for information about applications using the integration and data on the proportion of network payments generated by AI agents.

The development comes amid reports of rising automated payment activity on the XRP Ledger.

Last week, RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele reported on X that the network had processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402, representing around 25% of ledger activity.

Separately, the XRPL AI Hub, operated by payments infrastructure developer t54, recorded more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday.

However, the total value of these transactions remains relatively low compared with their overall count.

According to the dashboard, cumulative payments amounted to approximately 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD. This suggests that many transactions involve tiny amounts, consistent with automated software paying for individual requests instead of transferring large sums.

Ripple launched developer tools for AI-powered payments in June, enabling agents to create wallets, check account balances and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD. In September, it upgraded the toolkit to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The update also introduced a method for funding repeated requests with XRP without settling every transaction individually.

Tuesday’s announcement indicated that the companies plan to extend the integration with additional capabilities, including spending policy controls and tools that cover network fees on behalf of users.

Nevertheless, adding a wallet to an application does not eliminate the need to fund the account before it can transact.

Privy’s documentation states that newly created XRP Ledger accounts must receive a minimum reserve of 1 XRP to become active. As a result, an initial XRP deposit is required even when an account is intended solely for transferring RLUSD or other dollar-pegged stablecoins.
