$11B Bitcoin Options Expiry Puts BTC Price in Focus After FOMC Meeting

Bitcoin is heading into a major market event on October 30, with approximately $11 billion in options contracts set to expire. Following the Federal Reserve’s latest rate decision, traders are watching whether BTC can defend its current price levels as derivatives positions are adjusted. If the market digests the Fed’s announcement without another wave of selling, Bitcoin could stage a short-term recovery.

The Fed kept interest rates between 3.75% and 4% on October 28, in line with expectations. However, two policymakers favored a 0.25-percentage-point increase, highlighting ongoing divisions over monetary policy. While the decision removed an immediate source of uncertainty, the outlook for future rate moves remains a concern for risk assets.

With the FOMC announcement behind them, market participants are turning their attention to derivatives positioning, liquidity, and demand. The approaching options expiry could influence Bitcoin’s next move as traders adjust their exposure.

$11 Billion Bitcoin Options Expiry Puts BTC Price Under Scrutiny

Approximately $11 billion in Bitcoin options contracts will expire on Friday, October 30. The large volume of outstanding contracts makes the settlement a potential trigger for short-term volatility.

Data available before the expiry showed that call options outnumbered puts. One estimate placed the put-to-call ratio at around 0.53, indicating considerably more open call positions than put positions. Calls generally benefit from rising prices, while puts can help traders hedge against downside risk.

This imbalance may suggest bullish positioning, but it does not guarantee that Bitcoin will move higher. Some call options form part of hedging strategies, while put contracts can be used for purposes other than outright bearish bets.

The $78,000 level has also emerged as an important reference point in options-expiry estimates. Known as the maximum pain price, it represents the theoretical level at which the combined payouts to options holders would be minimized.

However, Bitcoin does not have to settle near $78,000. The final price will depend on buying and selling pressure, market liquidity, and trading activity as expiration approaches.

For bulls, the more favorable scenario would be for BTC to maintain its key support levels throughout the settlement. If market makers rebalance their hedges and expiring positions disappear without sparking heavy selling, Bitcoin could find room to recover.

Fed Rate Decision Eases Immediate Pressure, but December Remains Uncertain

Although the latest FOMC meeting is over, uncertainty about the Fed’s next policy move remains. The central bank maintained its current rate range while noting that economic activity continued to expand strongly and inflation remained elevated.

The two dissenting votes in favor of a rate increase complicate the outlook for risk assets. Their positions indicate that some policymakers remain concerned about inflation and believe tighter monetary policy may still be necessary.

For Bitcoin, the key question is whether investors had already priced in the expected rate decision. When the Fed delivers an anticipated outcome without a major surprise, traders can redirect their attention toward market positioning, liquidity, and upcoming economic releases.

This shift could support a relief rally if investors conclude that the announcement was less restrictive than feared. However, expectations of another rate increase later in the year could continue to weigh on risk appetite and limit BTC’s upside.

The Fed’s next meeting is scheduled for December 8–9. Before then, inflation reports, employment figures, and public remarks from policymakers could change expectations for the next interest-rate decision.

Can Bitcoin Recover After the $11B Options Settlement?

The latest Fed announcement has removed one immediate source of market uncertainty, but questions about future monetary policy remain. The October 30 options expiry is now another key event for Bitcoin traders.

An orderly settlement could help stabilize the market and allow buyers to rebuild momentum. However, adjustments to dealer hedges and changing liquidity conditions could also trigger further price swings, particularly if BTC tests critical support levels.

A bullish breakout remains possible, but traders will need to see sustained buying pressure before treating the options expiry as a clear turning point. Bitcoin’s ability to hold support and attract fresh demand will be crucial in determining whether the market can recover or faces another leg lower.
