Bitwise Asset Management predicts that 2025 will be an even more pivotal year for the cryptocurrency market than 2024, building on the successes of the past year. 2024 saw groundbreaking advancements, including the introduction of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the election of Donald Trump for a second term, and a bullish shift in price action. But according to Bitwise, 2025 will mark a new phase of growth, driven by several key factors.
In a new report authored by Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, Matt Hougan, and Head of Research, Ryan Rasmussen, the firm laid out 10 predictions for the coming year. Among the highlights is the expectation that all major cryptocurrencies will set new all-time highs. Bitcoin is forecast to reach $200,000, Ether could climb to $7,000, and Solana is projected to triple in value to $750.
Bitwise believes that the continued expansion of bitcoin ETFs will play a central role in driving this surge, particularly as institutional investors become more comfortable with these products. The second year of ETF inflows tends to see larger volumes, and with many large investment firms wrapping up their due diligence, the market could see an even bigger push toward bitcoin in 2025.
Another contributing factor to this growth is the possibility of the U.S. Department of Labor becoming more crypto-friendly, which could unlock billions of dollars in 401(k) funds flowing into digital assets. Additionally, Bitwise predicts a “bitcoin arms race,” spurred by U.S. government initiatives like the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve. As a result, the number of countries holding bitcoin could double by 2025.
Bitwise’s predictions for 2025 also include significant growth for other sectors within crypto:
- Stablecoins are expected to see massive growth, potentially doubling their market capitalization to $400 billion. This growth will be fueled by clearer regulatory frameworks in the U.S., greater adoption of stablecoins in fintech applications, and their expanding role in cross-border payments and remittances.
- Tokenized Real-World Assets (RWAs) could see explosive growth, with the total value of tokenized assets surpassing $50 billion as Wall Street increasingly embraces blockchain-based products.
- Memecoins could experience another surge, possibly surpassing 2024’s levels. The ease of launching new tokens, powered by AI-driven platforms, could lead to even more hype and speculation in this sector.
- Crypto IPOs will also gain momentum, with Bitwise expecting companies like Circle, Kraken, Chainalysis, and Anchorage Digital to go public. This would provide new investment opportunities and help legitimize the industry in the eyes of traditional finance.
- Coinbase, which is already publicly traded, could see its stock price soar to over $700 per share, positioning the crypto exchange as one of the most valuable brokers globally. This could even pave the way for Coinbase’s inclusion in the S&P 500, increasing institutional exposure to crypto.
With these developments, Bitwise sees 2025 as a year that will not only build upon 2024’s momentum but also push the cryptocurrency industry further into the mainstream. As the market matures, institutional investment, regulatory clarity, and technological advances in blockchain will continue to reshape the crypto landscape.
