El Salvador Acquires 1,090 BTC While Crypto Prices Slide and IMF Concerns Grow

El Salvador has added over 1,000 BTC—worth nearly $100 million—to its national bitcoin treasury as prices slipped below $90,000.

The government’s total bitcoin holdings now approach 7,500 BTC, accumulated through a policy of buying one BTC per day. This strategy continues despite IMF guidance discouraging additional public sector purchases, with authorities reaffirming their commitment to ongoing acquisitions.

The latest purchase coincides with closer coordination with U.S. officials on digital asset oversight, including a June meeting between President Nayib Bukele and White House crypto adviser Bo Hines.

Bitcoin fell below $90,000 during Asian trading hours, extending its recent decline amid weakening global risk sentiment.
