LEASH v2 Migration Reaches Final Stage as Shiba Inu Team Advances

Shiba Inu Developers Greenlight LEASH v2 Migration
10/9/2025

Shiba Inu developers announced Tuesday that the long-delayed LEASH v2 migration will start in the coming days after security firm Hexens approved the new token and its migration contract.

The update resolves months of uncertainty caused by a hidden flaw in LEASH v1. Initially marketed as a fixed-supply token, the original contract included a rebase mechanism and a “hidden-in-plain-sight” control path, allowing pre-authorized proxies to alter supply. Exploitation of this flaw earlier this year increased token supply by 20%, shaking confidence in its scarcity.

LEASH v2 permanently closes the loophole. The full token supply has already been minted into a multisignature wallet, and the contract cannot create new tokens. During migration, v1 tokens will be locked or burned, with v2 tokens distributed proportionally to holders.

The redesign uses OpenZeppelin ERC-20 libraries for simplicity and auditability, with any advanced features, like privacy layers, added later via wrappers.

SHIB prices were down 1% over the past 24 hours, reflecting a broadly flat crypto market.
