LinksDAO Expands with New Community Token, Embracing the Future of Crypto and Golf
LinksDAO, the innovative crypto golf club, is launching its own community token, moving beyond its previous reliance on NFTs, which are no longer as trendy as they once were. The move marks a significant shift as the organization adapts to the evolving crypto landscape while staying true to its mission: “We’re going to buy a golf course.”
The group’s NFTs initially brought in $10 million in early 2022, funding its ambitions. However, the market has since changed drastically, with the NFT craze cooling significantly and assets like memecoins taking the spotlight. To stay relevant and appeal to its crypto-savvy community, LinksDAO is introducing the LINKS token on the Base blockchain.
“We are launching a community token that’s deeply connected to the culture of golf and the Web3 ecosystem, designed to enhance our community and stay compliant with regulations,” said LinksDAO founder Mike Dudas during a recent call. The LINKS token will provide a new way for participants to engage with the DAO, which focuses on golf-related initiatives.
The distribution of the token will prioritize LinksDAO’s NFT holders, with 33% of the total supply allocated to them. Additionally, smaller portions will be reserved for holders from other prominent NFT communities, including Pudgy Penguins and Bored Ape Yacht Club, fostering a wider network of support.
Despite the cooling of the NFT market, LinksDAO’s vision for the future of golf is advancing. The DAO successfully acquired a golf club in Scotland in mid-2023, and now, it’s aiming to purchase a minority stake in Hillcrest Golf Course in Kansas City. The course, designed by the renowned Donald Ross in 1915, is undergoing a $30 million renovation under the leadership of owner Robb Heineman, who shares LinksDAO’s forward-thinking vision for what a golf club can be.
This acquisition is still subject to a vote by LinksDAO’s NFT-holding members, who play an active role in the organization’s decision-making process. While the community will have a say, the overall direction is clear: LinksDAO is committed to expanding its footprint in the golf industry through crypto innovations.
The launch of the LINKS token and the growing number of golf-related projects represents the next step in LinksDAO’s evolution as it seeks to bridge the worlds of cryptocurrency and golf in an increasingly digital world.
