Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet has expanded its bitcoin holdings by acquiring an additional 1,004 BTC, spending approximately $104.3 million, as revealed in a Monday filing.
With this latest purchase, Metaplanet’s total bitcoin assets now stand at 7,800 BTC, with an average acquisition cost of $103,873 per coin for the new tranche.
The company’s overall bitcoin portfolio, accumulated at an average price of $91,300, is currently worth over $806 million based on today’s market prices. Metaplanet aims to grow its bitcoin reserves to 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.
Since starting its bitcoin accumulation in April 2024, the firm has pursued a treasury management approach similar to that of MicroStrategy (MSTR).
Bitcoin prices have remained robust, hovering near all-time highs around $103,343 amid broader crypto market gains fueled by favorable macroeconomic trends.
Metaplanet funds its bitcoin acquisitions through bond issuances, recently completing its 15th ordinary bond sale valued at $15 million.
