Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings With $13.3M Bond Issuance
Japanese hospitality and investment firm Metaplanet (3350) has issued a 2 billion yen ($13.3 million) zero-coupon bond, aiming to increase its bitcoin (BTC) reserves. The bond is set to mature on September 30.
Meanwhile, Metaplanet has secured a 15.5% weighting in the BetaShares Crypto Innovators ETF (CRYP), a major exchange-traded fund (ETF) with over $50 billion in assets under management. CEO Simon Gerovich confirmed that the company’s presence in the ETF has now surpassed industry giants like Strategy (MSTR) and Coinbase (COIN).
The ETF, listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), provides investors with exposure to leading blockchain and cryptocurrency firms. However, it has struggled this year, posting a 23% decline year-to-date.
Metaplanet continues to strengthen its position in the crypto sector and is now the tenth-largest publicly traded holder of bitcoin, with 3,200 BTC in its treasury.
