S&P Dow Jones Indices, a unit of S&P Global, is set to launch a hybrid index that merges traditional equities with digital assets, providing investors a streamlined way to access the rapidly evolving crypto market.
The S&P Digital Markets 50 Index will track 35 publicly traded companies engaged in blockchain, crypto infrastructure, and related financial services, alongside 15 cryptocurrencies from S&P’s Broad Digital Market Index. This cross-asset benchmark captures both the performance of companies shaping the digital asset ecosystem and the tokens driving it.
Dinari, a U.S.-equity tokenization platform, collaborated on the index and will issue a blockchain-based token called a “dShare”, enabling investors to track the index directly on-chain. The token is designed for transparency and accessibility across blockchain networks.
The launch reflects a growing trend of institutional investors integrating digital assets into their core portfolios, moving beyond purely speculative positions. “From North America to Europe to Asia, market participants are beginning to treat digital assets as part of their investment toolkit,” said Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product & Operations Officer at S&P Dow Jones Indices.
The index offers exposure to the crypto sector while limiting the volatility associated with individual tokens.
Crypto stocks have surged this year amid clearer regulatory guidance and increased mainstream adoption. Coinbase (COIN) has risen 50% year-to-date, while Robinhood (HOOD), expanding its crypto services and acquiring a crypto exchange, has climbed over 250% since January.
Dinari emphasized that its tokenization initiative aims to modernize index investing. “We’re not just tokenizing an index, we’re demonstrating how blockchain infrastructure can modernize trusted benchmarks,” said Anna Wroblewska, Dinari’s Chief Business Officer.
The Digital Markets 50 Index joins S&P’s expanding suite of crypto-related benchmarks and signals further integration of traditional finance with digital assets. The official launch date has not been announced.
