XRP Ledger plans to activate its Ethereum-compatible sidechain in the second quarter.

Ripple officials announced at APEX 2025 in Singapore that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) will launch its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible sidechain in Q2, opening the door to greater interoperability and developer activity.

The sidechain’s testnet, introduced earlier this year, has rapidly expanded, attracting 87 new contributors previously unaffiliated with XRP, Peersyst Technologies reported. These participants include infrastructure providers, app developers, and ecosystem builders.

Once the mainnet launches, this growing network will be integrated into the broader XRPL ecosystem, potentially marking the largest surge of new projects in the ledger’s history.

The EVM sidechain will enable XRPL users to engage with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, such as yield farming and liquidity pools, thanks to its compatibility with Ethereum’s smart contract standards.
