Metaplanet (3350), Japan’s largest bitcoin treasury company, is raising 204.1 billion yen ($1.4 billion) through an international share offering to expand its bitcoin holdings.

The Tokyo-based firm currently holds 20,136 BTC, making it the sixth-largest bitcoin treasury among publicly traded companies worldwide. It priced 385 million new shares at 553 yen each, driving its stock up 16% to 714 yen on record trading volume Wednesday.

Nakamoto Holdings (NAKA), founded by crypto adviser David Bailey, pledged $30 million toward the new shares. Following the announcement, NAKA shares surged 77% on Tuesday.

Metaplanet plans to allocate 183.7 billion yen from the offering to bitcoin purchases in September and October, with the remaining 20.4 billion yen supporting its bitcoin income generation business.

Once the sale, first announced in August, concludes, Metaplanet’s total shares outstanding will exceed 1.14 billion.
