Ripio Introduces ‘wARS,’ Bringing an Argentine Peso Stablecoin to Its Crypto Ecosystem

Ripio Launches Argentine Peso Stablecoin ‘wARS’ as Part of Regional Expansion Plan

Leading Latin American crypto exchange Ripio has launched a new stablecoin pegged to the Argentine peso, deepening its commitment to bringing real-world assets onto blockchain networks.

The stablecoin, called wARS, is now live on Ethereum, Coinbase’s Base, and World Chain, according to a report from La Nación. The launch follows Ripio’s recent release of a tokenized sovereign bond, signaling the company’s growing focus on integrating traditional finance with decentralized technology.

With a user base exceeding 25 million, Ripio says wARS gives people a way to send, receive, and store value in pesos globally, without relying on banks or converting to U.S. dollars. The rollout coincides with Argentina’s ongoing economic reforms under President Javier Milei, whose administration has reduced inflation from 292% in April 2024 to 31.8% today.

Ripio also plans to introduce stablecoins tied to other Latin American currencies, aiming to enable cross-border transactions in local money — an area that currently depends on the dollar or expensive intermediaries.

Stablecoins have already gained strong traction in Argentina and Brazil, where inflation, capital controls, and limited access to foreign exchange have driven users toward crypto as a more stable and accessible financial tool.

By adding wARS to its ecosystem, Ripio is expanding its role in the rapidly growing market for tokenized real-world assets, bringing national currencies and financial products onto the blockchain to power faster, borderless payments.
