Iron Fish Team Merges with Coinbase to Advance Privacy on Base.

Coinbase Onboards Iron Fish Team to Enhance Privacy on Base

Coinbase has acquired the team behind Iron Fish, a blockchain project focused on privacy, to strengthen privacy features on its layer 2 network, Base. However, the Iron Fish blockchain and its native token will remain independent under the Iron Fish Foundation and will not be affiliated with Coinbase or Base.

As part of the deal, key Iron Fish developers, including CEO Elena Nadolinski and Jason Spafford, will join Coinbase to lead a new privacy-focused team within Base. Their mission is to develop tools that enhance privacy for on-chain transactions while maintaining security and compliance.

Coinbase described privacy as a “core building block” of blockchain technology rather than an optional feature. By integrating privacy-preserving solutions directly into Base, the company aims to provide developers with the necessary tools to build more secure and user-friendly decentralized applications.

Despite the transition, Nadolinski will continue to serve on the Iron Fish Foundation’s board, ensuring the blockchain project remains independent and continues its development.
