XRP Market Divide Widens: Whales Buy as Small Holders Sell Off

XRP whales have continued building their positions, adding 2.8% more tokens over the past five weeks while smaller investors have reduced their holdings. The accumulation trend helped XRP recover and move back above the $1.16 level.

The payments-oriented cryptocurrency has gained more than 8% during this period, with on-chain data revealing a growing gap between the actions of large holders and smaller wallet groups.

Santiment data shows that wallets holding between 100,000 and 100 million XRP have increased their balances significantly over the last five weeks. This buying activity from whales and large investors coincided with XRP’s rebound from roughly $1 at the end of June to around $1.16, indicating that major holders are showing confidence in the asset’s current momentum.

At the same time, smaller XRP wallets have lowered their exposure, selling approximately 5.2% of their holdings during the same timeframe. The contrast highlights a shift in market behavior, with retail investors showing signs of capitulation while larger participants continue accumulating.

According to Santiment, this difference between whale accumulation and retail selling could be a bullish indicator for XRP. The firm noted that XRP’s price history suggests movements by major stakeholders often have a stronger influence on price direction than activity from smaller holders.

Santiment explained on X that XRP has traditionally shown a tendency to follow the behavior of larger market participants while moving in the opposite direction of the smallest retail wallets. The current divergence, therefore, supports the argument for continued upside potential.

The accumulation trend also comes as XRP benefits from several important developments, including growing institutional interest around possible ETF offerings and continued adoption of the XRP Ledger for payment solutions, tokenized assets, and the RLUSD stablecoin.

These developments have kept XRP firmly in the spotlight and appear to be strengthening confidence among larger investors, even as smaller holders retreat from the market.
