FOMC September Meeting Sees Rate-Hike Probability Top 50%

Traders are increasingly betting that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates at its September 2026 meeting, with CME FedWatch showing nearly 56% odds of a 25-basis-point hike on Sept. 16, according to CNBC.

The probability jumped after Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh spoke at the Jackson Hole symposium, bringing the market’s expectations for the September FOMC decision much closer to a coin flip.

For crypto markets, the main development is the changing outlook for U.S. monetary policy. There is not yet enough evidence to conclude that the shift in rate expectations has directly affected Bitcoin or other digital assets.

CNBC’s report points to a repricing in interest-rate markets and higher short-term Treasury yields, but does not link the move to any specific changes in Bitcoin prices, altcoin performance, derivatives positioning or liquidation levels.

FOMC September 2026 Odds Rise Following Jackson Hole

Other prediction markets also showed a closely divided outlook. Kalshi traders placed the probability of a quarter-point rate increase at 48%, while Polymarket showed 49% odds. CME’s FedWatch tool put the probability slightly higher, at almost 56%.

The latest pricing marks a sharp change from before Warsh’s speech, when traders saw nearly a 70% chance that the Fed would leave rates unchanged in September, CNBC reported.

Markets had previously increased their expectations for a rate hike following the Fed’s July meeting. Three FOMC officials dissented from the decision to hold rates steady, arguing that monetary policy needed to become tighter as inflation remained elevated.

Rate-hike expectations subsequently declined after weaker July employment data showed job losses. Inflation also moderated, although it remained above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.

At Jackson Hole, Warsh questioned whether the recent improvement in inflation was enough to demonstrate a meaningful decline in underlying price pressures. He argued that policymakers needed stronger evidence that inflation was moving toward the Fed’s target at a clear and sufficiently fast pace.

What Rising Rate-Hike Odds Could Mean for Bitcoin

The latest market data indicate that investors are reassessing the Fed’s September decision, but they do not yet provide proof of a direct crypto-market reaction.

Bitcoin often responds to changes in monetary policy expectations because interest rates can influence liquidity and broader risk appetite. Still, the cited data do not establish that the latest shift in Fed expectations has caused a particular move in Bitcoin, altcoins or crypto derivatives.

The Treasury market has already shown signs of adjustment. CNBC reported that the two-year Treasury yield climbed to its highest level since late July. Because the two-year yield is particularly sensitive to expectations for near-term Fed policy, its rise suggests traders are preparing for a greater possibility of a September hike.

Inflation remains at the center of the policy debate. Fed Governor Lisa D. Cook said in an Aug. 5 speech that headline personal consumption expenditures inflation had risen 3.7% over the 12 months through June, while core inflation increased 3.3%.

Cook said inflation was still too high and indicated that she could support raising rates if needed. However, she also noted that continued disinflation could eventually bring inflation back toward the Fed’s target without requiring another rate increase.

Employment conditions will also factor into the decision. Cook cited a June unemployment rate of 4.2% and described the labor market as relatively stable, with hiring and layoffs both running at low levels.

That makes the upcoming inflation and labor-market reports particularly important as policymakers prepare for the September FOMC meeting.

Maxi Doge Looks to Attract Early Buyers Amid Rate-Hike Uncertainty

As the probability of a September rate hike moves above 50%, some speculative traders may look toward early-stage crypto projects that offer greater potential upside but also carry substantially higher risk.

Maxi Doge ($MAXI) is a meme-coin project built around a high-leverage trading theme and a 240-pound canine mascot. The project positions itself around an aggressive trading culture and speculative crypto activity.

According to the project, its presale has raised $4.8 million, while the token is priced at $0.0002837. Dynamic APY staking is available for early participants.

The project also promotes holder-only trading competitions featuring leaderboard rewards and a Maxi Fund treasury intended to support liquidity and partnerships.
