Bitcoin Miner MARA Sends $81.1M in BTC to Galaxy Digital as AI Strategy Expands

Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings has moved approximately 996 BTC, worth $81.13 million, to a wallet address associated with Galaxy Digital, according to blockchain tracking data from Lookonchain.

The transfer does not necessarily mean the Bitcoin has been sold, as there is no confirmation that Galaxy Digital completed a sale following the transaction.

MARA, which originally focused on Bitcoin mining, is expanding into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure. As part of this strategic transition, the company has also sold some of its Bitcoin reserves to improve its balance sheet and finance its evolving business operations.

In March, MARA disposed of 15,133 BTC for around $1.1 billion. Most of the proceeds were used to fund the repurchase of convertible debt.

Historical figures from Bitcoin Treasuries show that MARA held 53,822 BTC on February 26. The company’s reserves then declined over the following months, reaching 35,577 BTC by August 7.

The latest $81.13 million transfer comes as MARA continues to reduce its Bitcoin holdings while pursuing opportunities in AI and high-performance computing.

MARA shares rose 2% in premarket trading on Friday to approximately $10. Meanwhile, Bitcoin recovered above the $82,000 mark over the preceding 24 hours.
