Panama City Embraces Crypto: BTC and ETH Approved for Government Payments

Panama City to Enable Crypto Payments for Government Services

Paying taxes and fees in Panama City is about to get a digital upgrade. Mayor Mayer Mizrachi announced that residents will soon be able to use cryptocurrencies like bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), USDC, and tether (USDT) for a range of public payments—including taxes, parking fines, and permits.

“Previous leaders tried to make this happen through legislation, but we found a smarter route,” Mizrachi shared on X. “By law, government agencies must receive payments in dollars, so we partnered with a bank that accepts crypto and instantly converts it to USD.”

The initiative is designed to modernize how the city interacts with digital finance, potentially setting a precedent for broader crypto integration in public services.
