Metaplanet Purchases 555 BTC, Issues Additional $25M in Bonds to EVO FUND
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet (3350) has announced the purchase of 555 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at approximately 7.63 billion yen ($53.5 million), as part of its ongoing strategy to expand its crypto holdings.
To fund the acquisition, Metaplanet has sold an additional $25 million in bonds to EVO FUND, marking its second such sale in just days. The non-interest-bearing bonds are set to mature on November 6, according to a company statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
With this purchase, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 5,555 BTC, making it the largest holder of Bitcoin among public companies outside of North America, according to Bitcoin Treasuries.
In response to the news, Metaplanet’s stock rose by 11.5%, closing at 477 yen ($3.33) on Wednesday.
