The incident briefly disrupted transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s largest layer-2 networks.
Coinbase-backed Base restored block production on Thursday after a roughly two-hour outage brought the network to a halt.
In a follow-up update, the Base team said the chain is now operating normally, with internal nodes syncing correctly. The underlying cause is still being investigated, and node operators were urged to restart their systems to ensure proper synchronization.
The first signs of trouble emerged at 16:03 UTC, when Base reported that mainnet block production had become “unhealthy.” By 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified the issue and was actively working on multiple fixes.
The disruption temporarily froze activity across the network, though Base has yet to clarify what triggered the invalid block or whether the fault was due to a software bug or a consensus-related error.
The outage follows a previous incident in August 2025.
The team added that it will continue to monitor network performance and share further updates as the investigation unfolds.
