X has rolled out a new feature for U.S. users that connects financial discussions on the platform with trading platforms, allowing users to move from market posts to orders more quickly.
Users can now tap cashtags such as $BTC or $TSLA to access live market data, price charts and posts related to the asset. Selecting the “Trade” button sends them to one of X’s partner platforms, including Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase, where they can sign in or register before placing a trade.
The feature does not make X a brokerage or exchange. X simply provides the link to its partners, while the underlying transaction takes place on the selected trading platform.
Cashtags have been a longstanding feature on X, helping users follow conversations surrounding stocks and other assets. The company enhanced the tool earlier this year by introducing real-time prices and charts.
The addition of trading access fits into Elon Musk’s wider effort to expand X beyond social media and develop it into a broader financial platform.
“Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,” said Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead.
X’s large global audience gives the feature a potentially broad reach. The platform has millions of users worldwide, with daily engagement estimated at roughly 132 million on mobile and more than 245 million across all devices.
The platform has also become a key gathering place for the cryptocurrency industry. Posts from influential market participants can spread rapidly, sometimes affecting sentiment and liquidity across crypto exchanges around the world.
This “town-square” dynamic distinguishes X from platforms such as Discord and Telegram, where financial and crypto discussions are often distributed among private groups and channels.
With trading links now built into cashtags, X is shortening the path between discovering an asset through social posts and accessing a platform where that asset can be traded.
