Crypto Week Ahead: Aug. 24–28
Bitcoin enters the final stretch of August after posting one of its strongest monthly gains in years. BTC is up 23% so far this month, putting it on track for its best August since 2017, when it surged 65%, according to CoinGlass. The historical median return for August is -7%.
The next leg of the move could depend on several key catalysts, including a wave of U.S. economic releases covering inflation and growth and the Jackson Hole symposium later in the week.
“Bitcoin enters next week with considerable momentum, but also with a much higher bar to clear after its strongest weekly rally in years,” Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com, told CoinDesk. Investors will closely monitor Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s keynote speech at Jackson Hole.
Hathorn said a dovish speech that pushes back against expectations for further Fed tightening could preserve the weaker-dollar and lower-yield conditions that have supported Bitcoin. A hawkish surprise, meanwhile, could prompt investors to lock in recent gains.
Hong Yea, co-founder and CEO of onchain investment platform Grvt, said the market could be shaped by the “collision of Jackson Hole with geopolitical risk.” Uncertainty over the U.S.-Iran conflict remains elevated, while the Russia-Ukraine war continues to carry the potential for further escalation.
