Robinhood has added about $25 million in bitcoin to its corporate treasury, according to Johann Kerbrat, the company’s senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international.
Kerbrat revealed the bitcoin purchase Wednesday during an interview with The Starting Block at the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) Asia conference. He described the move as a reflection of Robinhood’s commitment to bitcoin and the wider crypto industry.
“Robinhood is a massive company at this point, with a market cap in the $100 billion [range]. So the $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company,” Kerbrat said.
CoinDesk reached out to Robinhood’s press team to ask whether the company intends to increase its bitcoin holdings or acquire other crypto assets, but no additional plans were disclosed.
The purchase places Robinhood within a growing group of publicly traded companies that hold bitcoin as part of their corporate treasury strategy. Strategy, a Nasdaq-listed company, began accumulating BTC in 2020, and more than 170 companies around the world have since adopted similar approaches. Other major corporate holders include Tesla, Block, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Riot Platforms, which together hold well over 1.2 million BTC.
Robinhood has already established itself as a major participant in the crypto market, with more than 28 million funded customers globally. The company expanded its blockchain operations in July with the launch of Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 network built on Arbitrum.
The network is focused on tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance. Since its mainnet launch, it has introduced tokenized stocks, the USDG stablecoin and yield-bearing lending through Robinhood Earn.
Robinhood Chain has also added integrations with major crypto projects and infrastructure providers, including Uniswap, Chainlink, Alchemy and BitGo.
