Pump.fun Expands Reach with Mobile App Launch Amid Memecoin Surge
Pump.fun, a leading platform for creating memecoins, has taken a significant step in expanding its accessibility by launching a mobile app for iOS and Android. The new app allows users to easily create Solana-based memecoins and manage their portfolios while on the go, aligning with the ongoing memecoin trend.
The app offers the same functionalities as the web version, enabling users to trade existing tokens and create personalized watchlists for tracking their favorite tokens. It comes at a time when the memecoin craze shows no sign of slowing down, even as the platform faces a proposed class-action lawsuit concerning U.S. securities law violations.
Bobby Ong, co-founder and COO of CoinGecko, pointed out that January 2025 saw an explosive 12-fold increase in new token launches compared to the previous year, with 600,000 new tokens debuting. Ong attributes this growth to the rise of token launchpads like Pump.fun, which make the process of creating a token simpler and accessible to non-technical users.
However, Ong also expressed concern about the rapid increase in the number of tokens and decentralized exchanges, predicting that the total number of tokens in circulation could reach 1 billion within five years. He warned that this could lead to fragmented liquidity and attention, ultimately preventing the kind of altcoin rallies seen in past market cycles.
Despite these challenges, Pump.fun’s move to launch a mobile app underscores its commitment to tapping into the fast-growing memecoin market, providing users with greater ease of access and tools for managing their investments in a dynamic and evolving ecosystem.
