Robinhood Chain Outpaces Ethereum on Revenue as Memecoin Volume Explodes

Robinhood Chain posted a record-breaking day on Aug. 30, processing 5.52 million transactions as users launched approximately 22,600 tokens and memecoin-focused platforms generated most of the network’s activity.

The blockchain is only about two months old, but its usage is increasingly centered on speculative tokens rather than the tokenized stocks that Robinhood initially promoted as its primary use case.

According to DefiLlama, applications on Robinhood Chain generated roughly $2.66 million in revenue over a 24-hour period. That put the network behind only Solana, whose apps generated around $5.07 million, while Ethereum applications generated about half as much and Base apps produced roughly one-sixth.

The revenue figures represent earnings generated by individual applications from users and do not reflect Robinhood’s own revenue.

Onchain data also showed decentralized exchanges on the network handling close to $875 million in volume on Aug. 30. Uniswap accounted for the largest portion, with about $432 million processed through its latest version and another $357 million through the previous version.

Token creation activity was equally striking. Pons, a platform that allows users to create and trade tokens directly from their wallets, recorded roughly 22,600 new token launches in one day. That was more than 40% above the previous day’s figure.

Many of the newly created assets are highly speculative memecoins rather than tokenized stocks or traditional financial instruments. The platform features tokens based on animals, internet jokes, viral trends and narratives that can quickly attract traders.

Pons, Uniswap and GMGN, a tool designed for memecoin trading, together accounted for around 88% of Robinhood Chain’s total app revenue.

Robinhood launched the Ethereum-compatible blockchain on July 1, pitching tokenized equities as a central application. The network allows traditional assets to be represented digitally and traded onchain.

Yet memecoin activity began taking a significant share of the network almost immediately. Within weeks, speculative tokens were already dominating much of the trading activity, while tokenized stocks represented a comparatively small portion of the assets being exchanged.

The speculative trend has gained momentum alongside the wider crypto rally. Cash Cat, one of the chain’s better-known memecoins, more than doubled during the week through Aug. 25 as traders increasingly targeted smaller tokens.

Transaction volumes have risen sharply since launch, moving from fewer than 1 million daily transactions in early July to more than 5 million.

Robinhood Chain’s rapid growth therefore appears to be coming from an unexpected direction: memecoin creation and trading are currently generating far more activity than the tokenized-stock market the network was originally built to support.
