Bitcoin ETF outflows totaled $430.2 million on Thursday as institutional investors continued pulling funds from US-listed spot Bitcoin products. In contrast, Hong Kong is strengthening its cryptocurrency investment sector, with four spot Bitcoin ETFs already available to investors.
Hong Kong’s private banking and wealth management assets grew to HK$12.9 trillion ($1.65 trillion) in 2025, representing a 24% annual increase. Net fund inflows also rose by 79%, according to the Hong Kong Private Wealth Management Report 2026.
The latest developments highlight a growing difference between the US and Asian cryptocurrency markets. While American investors are reducing their Bitcoin ETF exposure, Hong Kong’s financial institutions are expanding their digital asset offerings and creating additional investment channels.
US Bitcoin ETFs See $430.2M in Institutional Withdrawals
US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded combined net outflows of $430.2 million on November 5, extending the recent period of institutional selling.
Fidelity’s FBTC experienced the largest capital withdrawal, losing $199.9 million. BlackRock’s IBIT followed with $105 million in outflows. Grayscale’s GBTC recorded $49.9 million in withdrawals, while Franklin Templeton’s EZBC saw another $32.9 million leave the fund.
The latest redemptions pushed November’s total Bitcoin ETF outflows to $869.8 million across four trading sessions. Over the last seven completed sessions, combined net withdrawals reached approximately $1.36 billion.
The latest selling activity followed a brief improvement on November 4, when the funds attracted $74.6 million in net inflows. However, the subsequent reversal suggests that institutional demand remains unstable.
Bitcoin’s price weakness is adding to these concerns. As BTC struggles to regain its upward momentum, market participants are assessing whether continued ETF withdrawals could trigger further pressure on the cryptocurrency.
Hong Kong Strengthens Its Regulated Bitcoin Investment Market
While US-listed Bitcoin ETFs are experiencing significant redemptions, Hong Kong has already established a regulated market for spot cryptocurrency investment products.
Four spot Bitcoin ETFs currently trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange:
- Bosera HashKey Bitcoin ETF
- ChinaAMC Bitcoin ETF
- Harvest Bitcoin Spot ETF
- MicroBit Bitcoin Spot ETF
Investors also have access to two futures-based products: the CSOP Bitcoin Futures ETF and the Samsung Bitcoin Futures Active ETF.
Hong Kong launched its first three spot Bitcoin ETFs on April 30, 2024, becoming one of the earliest Asian markets to offer regulated Bitcoin investment products. MicroBit entered the sector later, launching its spot ETF in August 2025.
However, Hong Kong’s Bitcoin investment market has not escaped the recent withdrawal trend. November month-to-date figures from a regional ETF tracker showed $5.71 million in outflows from ChinaAMC, alongside $1.58 million from Bosera HashKey. Harvest recorded smaller withdrawals of approximately $68,880.
These figures suggest that investor demand remains mixed across both financial markets. Despite its expanding cryptocurrency infrastructure, Hong Kong’s smaller ETF sector has yet to demonstrate that it can absorb selling pressure on the scale currently affecting US funds.
Hong Kong Wealth Management Firms Increase Digital Asset Investments
Beyond its Bitcoin ETF market, Hong Kong is seeing broader participation from traditional financial institutions exploring cryptocurrency-related services.
According to the Hong Kong Private Wealth Management Report 2026, 43% of surveyed firms have already incorporated cryptocurrency ETFs or exchange-traded products into their investment offerings.
Another 25% are developing digital asset trading platforms, custody services or additional investment products. Meanwhile, 28% intend to enter the digital asset market over the next two to three years.
Hong Kong’s established financial industry provides a significant foundation for this expansion. The Securities and Futures Commission reported that the city’s overall asset management sector reached HK$42.2 trillion, creating substantial opportunities for traditional institutions to introduce cryptocurrency investment services.
This growth indicates that Hong Kong’s digital asset ambitions go beyond attracting money into existing Bitcoin ETFs. The city is developing a wider institutional ecosystem supported by regulated investment products, custody infrastructure and established wealth management companies.
Bitcoin Institutional Investment Trends Diverge Between the US and Asia
The latest $430.2 million in US spot Bitcoin ETF withdrawals highlights how quickly institutional investment sentiment can weaken during uncertain market conditions.
However, Hong Kong’s expanding financial infrastructure shows that the broader institutional adoption of digital assets continues to develop across Asia.
Although Hong Kong’s Bitcoin ETFs have also experienced recent outflows, growing interest from wealth management firms and traditional financial institutions could support the market’s long-term expansion.
The contrasting trends demonstrate that institutional cryptocurrency adoption is evolving differently across major financial centers. While US Bitcoin funds face sustained redemption pressure, Hong Kong is investing in the regulated products and services required to attract more traditional capital into the digital asset industry.
